EDF Energy 'regrets' decision to increase prices
EDF Energy regrets the decision to increase its household energy tariffs, according to the supplier's chief operating officer.
The head of the energy provider's customer branch, Eva Eisenschimmel, made the comment after it announced plans to increase its electricity and gas prices by 7.9 per cent and 12.9 per cent respectively.
However, the company has stated that its most vulnerable customers would still be viable for 15 per cent discounts from their standard tariff rates.
Ms Eisenschimmel said it was also going to attempt to reduce the fallout from the price rises in other ways.
"We will continue to work very hard to mitigate the effect of rising costs for our customers through energy efficiency advice and our range of products including Fixed Price 2010 and Read Reduce Reward.
"We will also do what we can to mitigate the effects on our 'most in need' customers through our Energy Assist tariff."
EDF Energy is one of the UK's largest energy companies, supplying gas and electricity to over five million customers.
